In a Vase, On Monday – TBT October…

A wood burning stove, our main source of heat this winter, has been in heavy use this month and will likely be burning non-stop for the next few weeks. There’s nothing to bring in from the frozen, snow-covered garden, of course, but I thought, for Cathy’s weekly gathering of flowers (or other things…) in a vase, I’d instead look back a few months, when the zinnias were just ending their reign of the cutting garden. The seeds I collected will be direct sown at the very end of May, when the warm soil will encourage quick growth, providing stems for new vases in July. Have a great week, everyone!

  2. That was nice, to see a vase full of colourful zinnias on a chill grey day in winter! I am now thoroughly convinced I must make space for zinnias this year! 😃

  3. It just occurred to me that some flowers I’ve seen in a demonstration plot at a local refuge might have been zinnias. I’ve kept trying to ID them as a native, but if they’re long blooming and provide good pollen and nectar, that could explain why they were added. They’re all gone now; I’ll have to wait until next year to see if they reappear.
