Quite unusual. I’ve never seen anything like this. Then again, I don’t remember hearing about the smoke tree. There’s a reason. It’s native in parts of Texas, but not mine. I found this short introduction quite interesting.
Smoke trees are quite common here as an ornamental – more like a large shrub – and the species (ie with green leaves, not the purple cultivar I have) can be seen growing wild (??) at the side of lonely country roads occasionally.
But I’ve never noticed this leaf pattern before either, at least to this extreme. Most leaves turn a brighter, deeper, purple/red in autumn, before they become brown and fall off.
I’m going to keep an eye on it over the next few weeks…
Very pretty.

That’s funny, it appears you missed my post of the smoke bush Linda. If you take a peek at this you can see purple foliage, and a green-foliage tree, and ‘smoke’! https://exploringcolour.wordpress.com/2021/12/13/smoke-bush-early-summer/

I didn’t remember your post, but I was thinking in a Texas context, of trees/shrubs I’ve actually seen with my own eyes.
