A mini heatwave over the past few days has encouraged perennials to open at an alarming rate. As I was dead-heading the last of the tulips yesterday, it seemed as if all around me I could almost see petals from Iris, Ox Eye Daisies, oriental poppies and much more unfurl, open and expand. Summer, it seems, has arrived, at least in spirit.
First are a pair of Iris – an unknown tall bearded and an unknown Siberian:

Next are a pair of Allium – the edible common chives and the not edible, very short A. karataveinse. A. karataviense self seeds readily – four years ago there were perhaps a trio of them in this spot…

Here is a wider view of the garden outside the dining room and kitchen windows. The combination of tree peony, Iris, Alliums, lupins and globe blue spruce really makes the space a colourful mosaic this time of year.
To complete my Six this week (and to see six things from other gardens around the world, check out the comments on Jim’s post) is this delicious looking tree peony. I don’t know the variety, but the huge, pale yellow flowers remind me of a lemon sorbet. Or a lemon chiffon cupcake. Or lemon curd piped into a tart. A bit too pale to look like an actual lemon, nevertheless, delicious… Have a great weekend everyone!

Your photo seen from your kitchen window is very successful, but itβs above all the whole mix that is well arranged. Lots of flowers right now!
I think I have the same unknown bearded iris. ( coming from my mother years ago)

I like the idea of designing the garden to present appealing views from your windows.

Yes! Exactly! Trees and shrubs especially, but even a perennial bed needs to look good from inside.

Iβm in love with your tree peony. I didnβt know such a thing existed, and the color β well, you know how much I like that color! That deep purple and soft yellow combination in the last photoβs a real winner.

I’m in love with it as well! The Allium is self seeded, so quite a wonderful unplanned combination.

Irises are always a joy. I am mad on the lemon peony and the view of your garden with lupins and alliums is fabulous, what a great combination.

White Allium are nice also. I do not see many of them. Allium are new to me. I got my first two from Tangly Cottage Gardening prior to prior to last season.

These are called ‘Mount Everest’ – the flower balls aren’t terribly large but the bulbs have multiplied quickly. And they add a welcome coolness to a hot day!

Oh yes, I remember that name. It is the cultivar that I considered trying for white bloom. I had been hesitant to try Allium for a long time, but Tangly Cottage Gardening gave me two, Allium schuberti and Allium christophii. Both have performed well here.

That view from your kitchen window must be so pleasing to look at while doing the dishes! π I was surprised how nice alliums and lupins look together. And your tree peony is gorgeous! I have a yellow Itoh peony with similar flowers, but not that size!

Alliums seem to look great with just about anything! I’m happy that I planned a garden right outside the kitchen and ding room – it’s so nice to see all day.
