Gorgeous and gigantic. Looks like you needed a stepladder to get a photo. Do you have many of those? So much nectar for lots of happy bee visitors. A neighbor gifted me 5 small plants in June…turned out to be ‘Velvet Queen’ and 8’…also a gorgeous cultivar with multiple smaller blooms on the stems.
I was definitely bent back, looking waaaay up! I started a dozen or so seeds late in the spring but this is the only one that the chipmunks didn’t nibble away…
Over the years the tallest and ‘best’ sunflowers’ in my garden have been those volunteers that spring up in unexpected places! Although treated as an annual, it’s interesting that the seeds can be hardy enough to survive our winters.
Yes you are right I beter with my stategic mowing I nip the tops any potential beauties though I did not mow all but one day the last in May I saw many wildflowers pop up with one small act. The wildlife here thrives on my (6) 50lb sacks of sunflowers from Dec. until June so with not a one here now you know these wild ones don’t drop a bite 🙂

Love it! I did not start any as the beasts find them and devour lol but a random tiny one from a seed dropped did bloom then died.

Fabulous! I especially like the second photo. That green center makes a wonderful complement to the yellow rays!
