  1. Gorgeous and gigantic. Looks like you needed a stepladder to get a photo. Do you have many of those? So much nectar for lots of happy bee visitors. A neighbor gifted me 5 small plants in June…turned out to be ‘Velvet Queen’ and 8’…also a gorgeous cultivar with multiple smaller blooms on the stems.

    1. Over the years the tallest and ‘best’ sunflowers’ in my garden have been those volunteers that spring up in unexpected places! Although treated as an annual, it’s interesting that the seeds can be hardy enough to survive our winters.

      1. Yes you are right I beter with my stategic mowing I nip the tops any potential beauties though I did not mow all but one day the last in May I saw many wildflowers pop up with one small act. The wildlife here thrives on my (6) 50lb sacks of sunflowers from Dec. until June so with not a one here now you know these wild ones don’t drop a bite 🙂
