It’s been at least a month since our last half decent rainfall; the garden is parched and looking unnaturally tired and floppy and my rain barrels are almost empty. Good thing it’s the end of the growing season! I’ve continued to use rain barrel water for the pots on the back porch though – how could I not when this Coleus, in particular, has been so fabulous all season and has just started to send up some very sweet flower spikes. It’s called Under the Sea Fishnet Gold – names are trademarked, of course – and was developed by Chris Baker (from Baker’s Acres Greenhouse and Garden Center) for Hort Couture, if that means anything to anyone. It gets morning sunshine and afternoon shade and I did provide a very weak fertilizer during July and August.

Perfect Autumn colors. Wish I could send our rainclouds westerly……we’ve had ‘a bit too much’ (just south of Boston). Clicked on your link…they have a lot of green houses! (Google Map) Have you clicked on their ‘About us’ & read their ‘Mission Statement’ ? 🤣🤣

Too funny!! My Fave:
‘OMISSION STATEMENT
Due to space limitations again, this year’s Omission Statement has been omitted.’

It’s a real beauty Chris, and with flowrs too. 😃 I saw the comments above and just had to go and see the mission statements for myself. What a laugh! Would be fun working there!

I started several different coleus from seed this spring. They continue to impress with their bright colors.

From seed! That’s impressive! I’ve started them from cuttings in the past – easy peasy.

Yes. They are easy from cuttings but the seed varieties were so varied that I couldn’t resist.

Every time I see a pretty coleus, I think, “I really ought to…” But I haven’t yet. This one’s such a beauty I could be tempted — and if I were in the neighborhood of the crew that produced that mission statement, I’d sure enough buy it from them.

Looks like such a great nursery eh? Will Coleus withstand your summer heat? Or would it be a winter plant?

Nice cultivar, will you be taking cuttings for winter enjoyment?

I will not, sadly…pretty sure the cats would have something to say about it…although…as I think harder…I guess I could have a jar on the kitchen windowsill. The trick would be to keep the cutting small enough throughout the winter …
