On a very cold morning, after starting the car and spraying the windshield, frost like this might quickly appear before the defroster warms the glass. The reverse is more often visible, for example, this frost was on the side of a dark car, and when the sun hit it melted away very quickly.

I am flashing back to cold winter mornings on the Canadian Prairies. The east facing kitchen window would do this.
