In a Vase, on Monday – Who Wore it Better?

Have you ever seen one of those social media posts, or TV entertainment show segments with the caption ‘Who Wore it Better?’ Usually it’s a snarky thing, with two women (usually actresses) wearing the same or similar dress, with commentators weighing in on on who looks better in that particular garment. Having an abundance of Ox Eye Daisies (Leucanthemum vulgare) in bloom this week, many of which are growing in precarious positions (the sides of the driveway or paths, too close to being driven over or walked on), I snipped a few off (OK, I snipped a LOT off – they seem to love growing in gravely soil) and filled a half dozen vases, including these four small ones. Four different vases, the same white daisy. Who wore it better?

It seems that bright white on a bright sunny day is challenging for a camera sensor (or maybe just for this photographer). As well as daisy time in my garden it’s also peony time. And by dialing down the brightness and increasing the contrast while editing these photos I was able to bring out some of the lovely details in these Duchesse de Nemours peonies. Tall stems this year, thanks likely to the heavy snowfall last winter that melted and provided a lot of moisture to peony’s deep roots.

Every Monday Cathy at Rambling In The Garden encourages us to share a vase highlighting what’s growing in our gardens. It will be sunny and warm here this week, hopefully with a touch of rain at one point or another, so there’s lots blooming! Have a great week everyone!

  1. All of the daisy vases are nice, but my favorite is the larger bouquet in the green vase on the right. The red and white vases seem to compete a bit with the flowers, while both green vases complement them a touch better.

Then there are those peonies. My heavens, those are glorious!

  2. The fourth vase on the far right wears it best; but that is merely my opinion, and because I like daisies in big bunches. I think that the peonies would be fine on their own.

  3. The peonies are delicious! And as for the lovely oxeye daisies, it is hard to pick one, but I think it is the slender green vase that wins. 😉

    1. These Delicious Peonies…there’s a title for a poem or story… the slender green or the very full green are definitely favourites. It’s funny, I used the red one first and brought it inside…but the skinny green vase looks so elegant….
