It’s Thanksgiving Monday here in Canada; we had friends for turkey dinner yesterday, with all the traditional fixings and a vase of cut, end of season, flowers fresh from the garden. You know it’s end of the season because zinnias aren’t looking that great while dahlias are looking better than ever. As part of Cathy’s weekly theme, here’s the vase that began the afternoon, yesterday, dead centre on the dining room table.
Dahlias, strawflowers and big blue Salvia are the best looking flowers in the garden right now, and should keep blooming until frost hits us in a few weeks. One of the things I love about this Salvia is the blue stems.
Have a great week everyone!

Magnificent! what lovely colours!
I love the indigo blue against almost anything.
Blue stems! Who knew? It’s a pretty bouquet, and that vase reminds me of the ones my mother always had around: sometimes clear glass, sometimes green.
I have a few similar vases…I wonder if they were used by florists back in the day.
Yes! They were. That’s how mom got hers — from florist bouquets given at birthdays and such.
Happy Thanksgiving, Chris! Enjoy the abundance. 🙂
😊😊😊
Those flowers celebrate the closure of Summer. which until the frosts arrive will alo no doubt be gracing your garde.
Thanks Noelle – summer is definitely ending…
Love that green vase Chris, and what a great celebration of your end of summer remnants it holds!
I love the vase too! It’s sad to see summer slipping away…. but autumn colours are stunning this year.
Happy Thanksgiving! Your arrangement is a perfect reflection of the holiday.
Thank you! It’s been a gorgeous day – starting with a run where a half dozen wild turkeys scittered across the road in front of me. So perfect!!
Wonderful combination and a bit of a lucky happenstance? What Salvia is that – I love it, too?
It’s called Big Blue – Salvia longispicata x farinacea. Gorgeous eh?
It is, I hope to find one. I have not seen that one before.
What a gorgeous centrepiece for your Thanksgiving dinner. I’m sure it received many comments!
It was admired! 😊
Such a great vase for a thanksgiving table… or any table! Those flowers look so fresh and the sage really is gorgeous. 😃
Thanks Cathy!
How pretty! Is that strawflower white or ‘Silvery Rose’? It looks white to me. I was aware that Thanksgiving is celebrated in Canada, but I was not aware that it is a different day from here.
Yeah, being a tad colder than much if the U.S. we celebrate our harvest etc s lot earlier. The strawflower could be either – I planted both.
Beautiful bouquet.
Thank you!
