In a Vase, on Monday – V and Divas

I listen to a podcast that’s quite popular in Britain; it features two gents humorously discussing their lives and answering listeners’ questions about etiquette. Quite a pleasant way for me to pass the time while on the highway or treadmill. These two guys refer to their listeners as ‘G and Divas‘ – referring to the drink they often imbibe in while taping the podcast – a mixture of gin and Dubonnet. Since my vase today features just two species – Verbena bonariensis floating above a collection of Dahlia -orangey ‘Creamsicle,’ white ‘Arctica,’ plus a third, name forgotten, these then are my own V and Divas.

Many thanks to Cathy at Rambling in the Garden for hosting this meme – although she certainly doesn’t encourage gardeners to tipple while wandering about their posies, I frequently carry my mug of coffee with me as I make me way outdoors early in the morning. Have a great day everyone!

  1. Purple and orange is one of the best combos ever. Is that ‘Dreamsicle’ on the right side of the vase, above the cup? The front-and-center orange flowers seem a little bold to be given that name. Of course, I remember the ice-cream dreamsicles of childhood, which were a lovely pastel orange.

  2. I have not heard of that podcast, Chris, but then again there are so many podcasts out there and it is easy to go down a rabbit hole once you start … πŸ˜‰ You have some lovely dahlias there, and a great crop of verbena – as Shoreacres said, orange and purple make a great combination. My after breakfast ramble is invariably accompanied by a mug of coffee, which is invariably cold before I have finished because I have been distracted and out longer than anticipated πŸ˜‰

    1. It’s V. bonariensis…a lovely self-seeding annual here, and seen in many Monday vases on Cathy’s site!

Yes, that’s coleus…started as a very small plant but seems to like this spot as it’s now so huge! Sadly, it’s destined for the compost pile in a few weeks…
