I’m joining Cathy at Rambling in the Garden today with not one but three small vases – and two of them don’t have a single daffodil! Like every other Canadian these day, patriotic feelings are front and large of many conversations and endeavors; I was happy to see a half dozen deep red tulips start to open on the weekend and thought how marvelous they’d look next to graceful white Leucojum aestivum now dotting the garden.
If there was a wedding this week, white on white vases like this might look good eh?
And I did have to keep up with the daffs – here Leucojum is joined by Narcissus ‘Quail,’ so fragrant just a few stems will fill a room with it’s heavy scent:

I hope Canadians remember that nearly half of us voted for Kamala– alas, too many drank the Kool-aid of that nut case, for which I am deeply sorry. 🙁 Fingers crossed we find our way out of this mess.

That’s a beautiful deep red; I think it looks even better with its white companions than one of the more boldly and traditionally red tulips would. I like the red vase, too, although I might have been tempted to go with a white one. Either way, the bouquet really shines.
Thanks – I have a lot of green vases but only this one red one – it’s quirky shape is growing on me. I’m planning on planting a few more tulips this fall and will likely stick with the red and white palette but who know….I’m also very fond of orange tulips!
Ah, Leucojum! It is so underappreciated. Because we lack Galanthus, Leucojum is our snowdrop, but at a different time.

I should get some more leucojum, and treat it seriously, rather than just being happy to see at the edge of the woodland amongst groundcover plants – it’s so elegant, and the white vase accentuates this. Bulbs make such a good contribution to your spring garden, don’t they Chris? Thanks for sharing them with us.
Oh my gosh – without spring bulbs my garden would be virtually colourless until the end of May! Or until shrubs and trees started to bloom, anyway…the first perennial to bloom – starting a week or so ago – is the ground cover Whitley’s Speedwell. It’s very pretty but not nearly enough!
I love the red and white vase and am somewhat embarrassed to be American. I agree with Eliza. I grow more appalled by the day. Your bulbs and vases are fabulous. The luecojum are rather elegant, especially in the white vase.
It’s hard, isn’t it? A huge part of me just wants to turn off the news completely – bury my head in the sand, so to speak – but if we do that the injustices will continue, unchecked, unquestioned, unchallenged, allowing even more atrocities (?) to occur.
Yes, most of what I see going on is what, unthinkable.? inconceivable? The worst part is people seemingly find this behavior acceptable. I am baffled. I understand the desire not to watch.
I don’t know anyone that sides with the obnoxious orange bully on Canada – or much of anything else for that matter. He’s sliding steadily in the polls, giving us hope that 2026 will see a sharp reversal on the his status and that of enablers.
I wish Leucojum performed as well in my garden as it does in yours.

The Leucojum is so lovely, especially with the tulip. As pretty as snowdrops but bigger! 👍 Beautiful daffs too. 😃
