Clockwise from top left – Zinnia, Tagetes (marigold), Calendula (also marigold – a good example of why botanical names are important), Symphyotrichum novae-angliae (New England Aster). The top photo, if you can see it, as a garlic chive – Allium tuberosum, with a friendly honey bee
Lovely photos! Those who don’t have Garlic Chives, miss out on so much awesome pollinator activity & photo ops as well! You could take pictures all day, for several weeks. Flowers are beautiful…my Asters aren’t blooming yet. Bought a teeny 4″ pot last Fall, it somehow spent the winter, unplanted, on the steps…planted this Spring when I saw some growth…now it’s quite large!
I recognized the garlic as garlic of some sort; it looks remarkably like our native wild garlic, although the cluster of flowers is much larger. The photo’s beautiful. I recognized the purple aster from photos of some New England bloggers. We have a couple of larger purple fall asters; it’s time to begin looking for them.

Garlic chives are really lovely and bees Really love them! But I have to remember to dead head them otherwise they’ll spread like crazy.

Thanks Eliza. Despite the lack of rain not all is lost.
