A Week of Flowers 2025 – If It’s Monday, It’s May

Cathy lives on a mountainside in Germany, and to help chase away the cold and perhaps snowy and grey December doldrums she hosts seven days of colour to remind us of the beauty from the past spring and summer. I looked for a flower photo that I hadn’t yet shared and came across the lovely soft blue of a Muscari that was making its first appearance in my garden.

On May 08, Muscari armeniacum ‘Valerie Finnis’, an unknown white Muscari in the background, a few daffodil leaves amidst the early shoots of Allium sphaerocephalon – drumstick Allium.

  1. Muscari don’t usually make my heart sing, but the gradations in color in these is utterly lovely. They remind me of our sandyland bluebonnets: a species that provides a similar combination of chalky blue and white.
