Keeled garlic, witch’s garlic, Allium carinatum, is the last of the alliums to bloom in my garden. Native to much of Europe, it’s quite unobtrusive when the flower atop it’s nearly two foot (60 cm) stem is seen in isolation. But when allowed to self seed, it can form a quite fabulous drift of mauve and sometimes white in the summer garden. With the lone nodding onion – Allium cernuum – in the bottom left of the photo below, it reminds me of a line of fireworks.
You sure have a yarden filled with gorgeous Alliums!
The combination of lavender and white is marvelous, and I really like the way the airy blooms are scattered through the grasses and other foliage. The ‘unplanned’ distribution is lovely.
