There were dire warning Saturday and Sunday about imminent frosty nights and protect your tender garden things. I, however, generally don’t protect tender things in the fall. I breath a sigh of relief that I no longer have to water them or dead-head or check for bad bugs. I anticipate with glee more time to…I don’t know…read…dust…sleep…before opening seed catalogues or making lists of things to do in the spring. Anyway, when I read the frost warnings I thought I should take my clippers out to the garden and snip a few things to join Cathy at Rambling in the Garden before they got fritzed by the freeze.
Of course, there’s been NO FROST at all, not even close to freezing temperatures. In fact, none forecast for the next two weeks! Huh. Back to watering and dead-heading… Anyway…

Here’s the first photo I took of the flowers in a vase. It’s a new vase, from my faviurite local vintage shop. I left the stems long…
It’s a lovely vase and I was happy with the arrangement, but because of the cats, I left it outside, on a table on the back porch, overnight. The next day it has been blown over of course. High winds. So I cut the tall stems by half and re-arranged them. I think I like the newer version better, although you can’t really see the foxglove anymore… oh well… Have a great week everyone!

I do like the shorter-stemmed bouquet better. They’re both lovely, though. They have a kind of natural messiness that I really like. There’s high excitement here because of a north wind; it’s ‘only’ 21C. I can’t wait for the sun to come up so I can go to work!
21…that’s, like, a perfect temperature isn’t it? Have fun today!
The Anemones look so pretty in the sunlight and go really well with the Dahlias. Amazing you still have Foxgloves! I don’t have Verbena b. envy…there are so many growing here.
WOW!! I love this arrangement!
Frost?! Goodness, it is only the beginning of October. (It was in the 90s here yesterday, and will likely be today as well.) Goldenrod and anemone are rad, and both are new to me. My anemones are a pale pink though. I may find a white one in the future.
What a nice mix of blooms Chris – it’s always interesting to see what others can still find at this time of year. The verbena make a great splash of colour, and I am pleased to have grown some from seed this year, as it has been a while since I have had any, and hopefully they will self-seed. I was shocked to find temperatures had dipped to under 4 degrees on Sunday morning, as I have not closed the greenhouse doors for months – but have done so now!
That’s a robust and healthy arrangement you “saved” from the risk of frost!
