Wonderful to see! A Giant one. I took some photos of a female Spicebush Swallowtail, yesterday. 1st Female Monarch a few days ago.
I’ve always been awed by these…their wings are so interesting!
What a treat! These are well known for visiting citrus groves in Florida; the ones I’ve seen have been around the flowers of our terribly invasive but related trifoliate orange. Bad plants aren’t necessarily bad for every creature!
We don’t have citrus here, of course, but I do have prickly ash and a host of perennials/biennial (think 2nd year parsley now starting to flower) that they love.

That is a joy to behold! I’ve found swallowtail caterpillars in my garden but never the resulting butterfly- yet!
I have a small grove of prickly ash which, I discovered, is a host plant for several Swallowtail species, so I’m not surprised to see the butterflies here. Having them flitting about so early in the year is a wonderful surprise!
