- About

I see two Silene species here. Silene subciliata is native and somewhat rare; it’s a brilliant red, and confined to east Texas. S. gallica is, as the name suggests, a European import. It’s pinkish, and quite tiny, but fairly widespread. I’d never heard of this species, which is quite similar in form — but oh! those white flowers!
The flowers are gorgeous, you just look at them and you know its name!
Do you know that’s edible? Especially tasty before it flowers. No, I have not tasted it. I have White Campion, which looks very similar & a tiny pink-flowered silene.
Gorgeous! And now you really have caught us up Chris! I picked some of this today for my Monday vase! LOL!
Just saw your vase and my eyes perked up at Silene! It’s become a bit of a thug in my garden, TBH, very difficult to pull.
